Morris dancing troupe complete sponsored walk

Date published: 25 July 2018

A local Morris dancing troupe completed a sponsored walk on Sunday to raise money for their upcoming championships.

Queensway Royals, who practice at St Thomas' Church in Kirkholt, walked from the church to Hollingworth Lake and back to Lowerplace Liberal Club.

Dancers as young as four joined in eight-mile walk, which took six-hours to complete. The group stopped at the lake for ice cream and drinks before continuing to the Liberal Club for further refreshments.

The group are aiming to raise funds for new equipment for the championships in September, such as dresses, shakers, socks and clips.

Kim Henderson, Troupe Principal, said: “It was a brilliant day with a lovely turnout. We aren’t sure how much we have raised yet, but we have asked people to try and get the sponsors in as soon as possible.”

The championships take place in September, which sees Morris dancing troupes compete against one another at Pontins in Wales and take part in a big parade.
