Young people wanted as extras in new Samuel Bamford film

Filming of Our Sam – The Middleton Man project

A Heritage Lottery funded film is being made in Middleton this summer! It’s about Samuel Bamford, 19th Century Middletonian poet, writer and Parliamentary reformer.

'Our Sam – The Middleton Man' is a project devised by ReelMcr which aims to educate Middleton and the surrounding areas on Sam Bamford.

So far over 100 participants have attended, with around 25 young people devising and starring in the film itself.

In the film, Sam comes back to modern day Middleton, to help guide a group of disgruntled young people who are sick of being treated as worthless by adults in the area.  They are tired of being made to move on from public spaces, especially since they can’t afford to do anything else but loiter.

Samantha, 16, comes across Sam Bamford’s story, and uses his life events to help rally the youngsters of Middleton together to do something positive in their community, and hit back at the stereotype that young people in the area do nothing but cause trouble.

The film will draw comparisons between modern day Middleton and that of Sam’s time in the 1800s, with secret meetings, plots and protests, this group of youngsters will eventually come together in the name of Samuel Bamford.

The production team needs as many local extras as possible, from the ages of 10 – 16, to partake in a huge ‘meeting’ scene on the 24 steps, Boarshaw Road, Saturday 30 June from 8am.
