Hamer Primary School

Date published: 16 March 2018

Huge thanks to all parents who made a special effort to attend our Kingswood assembly on Wednesday. We are sure parents will agree that is was a lovely opportunity to find out more about the fabulous experiences of our children whilst they were on the residential last month. Thanks also to Year 5, and Mr Lomax in particular, for organising this.

Whilst we have a very strong team delivering high quality phonics sessions across school, in an effort to keep up to date with current practices, several key staff in KS1 and EYFS attended phonics training this week.

It is Autism Awareness Week next week and. in an effort to increase understanding about this subject, we are pleased that a colleague from Springside has offered to deliver a special assembly to our children on Monday morning. This will be followed by a non-uniform day across the whole site on Wednesday 28 March, when children will be asked to wear onesies and bring in a small donation for charity. More details to follow. non uniform day across the whole site.

At Hamer, we strive to be the best that we can be and we therefore regularly undertake a variety of self- evaluation exercises designed to further build on the good practice which already exists here. Part of this self- evaluation process involves working with an independent School Improvement Partner who visits throughout the year. This week saw a visit from our School Improvement Partner, Mr Roger Gill.

Mr Gill spent two days in school, observing lessons, analysing books, speaking to children and holding discussions with various members of staff. He also carried out an audit of the school website and checked various systems and processes in school (all of which he had been asked to do by the SLT).

The two days proved to be a great success, with many positives being highlighted in the feedback, along with some areas for further development being agreed. We very much look forward to Mr Gill returning in the Summer Term, in order to evaluate how school have further built upon the good practice which already exists.

Parent meetings will be held across school over the coming few weeks and if parents have not already received information about them, they should be doing so very shortly. As usual, appointments will be available before and after school but must be booked in advance with the class teacher. It is important that all children have someone attend these meetings, as targets need to be reviewed and progress and attainment need to be discussed before we get to the end of the school year. This is a chance for parents and their child to sit down and talk to the class teacher together so can parents please ensure that appointments are made.
