Seeking information about Heywood old Standards at St James' Parish Church

Date published: 21 October 2017

St James Parish Church, Heywood has closed, but there are two old Standards laid up there and the Lancashire Veterans Association, Heywood, is seeking information on the background to the Standards.

Harry Mills, Chairman, Lancashire Veterans Association Heywood said: “When arranging the sad closure of St James Church, it was discovered that there were two old Standards laid up there, one was a Royal Navy Standard and the other was an early British Legion Standard, i.e. prior to 1971 when it became Royal British Legion.

“These Standards are currently in the care of Heywood Township and we, at the Lancashire Veterans Association, Heywood, are seeking information on the background to the Standards, for example, when were they laid up, are any members of the Associations still alive, what caused the Standards to be laid up, etc.

“We would be most grateful to receive any information, no matter how insignificant it might seem, to help us in our quest.”
