Stuart Carmichael remembered by Friends of Littleborough Stations

Date published: 20 October 2017

Jackie Carmichael unveiled a brass plaque at Littleborough Station in memory of her late husband Stuart on Monday (16 October).

Stuart Carmichael was a founder member of the Friends of Littleborough Stations (FOLS) and served as the group's secretary from 2006 to 2013.

Members of the friends group assembled in Littleborough Station booking hall to pay tribute to the huge amount of work that Stuart did for Littleborough Station, including being part of the successful campaign to have access ramps installed.

Rae Street, Chairwoman of FOLS, made a short speech celebrating Stuart's contribution to improvements at the station.

Northern Railways was represented by Ernest Smith, who runs the ticket office at Littleborough.

Jackie Carmichael said: I am very proud of the kind tribute to my husband, who died last year.

“I thank the group for providing the plaque in fond memory of Stuart.”

After the ceremony, refreshments were served at the Littleborough History Centre in the Leeds platform buildings at the station.
