Residents being bombarded with pigeon poo

Date published: 10 August 2017

Motorway bosses are being asked to clean up their act following complaints from residents they are being bombarded with 'pigeon poo'.

Pedestrians walking under the M62 motorway on Newhey Road in Milnrow are regularly being splattered with bird droppings from pigeons roosting under the bridge.

Councillor Neil Butterworth said: “It's no joke. This is a busy route and every day people are having to run the gauntlet to try and avoid being hit by pigeon poop. There must be dozens of them up there.

"I have written a stiff letter to the Highways Agency asking them to sort out this menace pretty quick. Not only is it extremely unpleasant, it can be dangerous, particularly for all the children walking to school.

"I understand there is a really cheap and effective solution. You can smear a special gel on the ledges which creates an optical illusion to the birds of flames which prevents them from sitting there lying in wait for the next pedestrian.

"It's certainly worth a try. I'm fed up of having to put up my umbrella every time I'm walking under the bridge."
