The Nutters Restaurant annual “Ascot at Nutters” lunch took place on Thursday and raised over £5,000 for the NSPCC.

A net profit of £5,443.92 was added to by Nicky McGill of Fisherfield Childcare who presented a cheque for £9,861.

The money was accepted by Debbie Sefton, Community Appeals Manager for the NSPCC who gave a short talk about the services which the charity was delivering in Rochdale.

On arrival at Nutters Restaurant the guests received a sparkling drink in the pink colour, which was adopted for this year’s event. They enjoyed a starter of roast hake with a red camargue rice and English asparagus salad with a spring onion and poppy seed vinaigrette. Followed by lamb shoulder 'gremolata' with lemon and soft herbs, goose fat parmentiers and puy lentil sauce. Dessert was summer berry torte with Champagne jelly and wild strawberry yoghurt ice cream.

Nutters ran a raffle for a gourmet meal for two which raised a staggering £930. Guests took part in a grand raffle for a range of prizes which had all been donated. They also took part in a race game based on the first four races of the day which were watched on the large screens.

The Masters of Ceremony, Rotarians Bob Chadwick and Rochdale Online Director Rotarian John F Kay were dressed in top hat and tails by Swarbrick Formal Hire.

The winners of the race game, J Ashworth, Christine Jones and Margaret Gray and were presented with bottles of champagne donated by Rotarian Ann Stott in memory of the late Rod Nutter, Rotarian Irene Davidson as Immediate past president of the Rotary Club of Rochdale and by Rochdale Online. The booby prize was won by Chris Donohue.

Andrew Nutter chose the winner of the best hat competition helped by last year’s Mayoress Elaine Dutton.
