Milnrow Band performed at seven villages in the recent Whit Friday Saddleworth contests and gained several well-placed results, and adjudged second best local band competing overall.

Milnrow had two fourth places, two fifth places, three best local prizes and a deportment prize. Placed sixth overall in Saddleworth, the band was second place in the overall local championship.

Ken Watts, Band President said: "The weather was kind to us which made for a great atmosphere around the villages.

“As always, Saddleworth was very busy but consistent performances made sure that we weren’t placed outside the top 10 at any contest.

“All in all still a good nights work and the prize money helps us get one step closer to our goal for funding the trip to the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall in October.”

The band competed at the Hebden Bridge Hymn Tune and March contest on Sunday (18 June).

Marching down to 'On the Quarter Deck' (Kenneth J Alford), on the stand, the band played the hymn tune 'Myfanwy' (J Parry, arranged Denzil Stephens) and the contest march 'Mephistopheles' (Shipley Douglas) to gain second prize.
