Going green to support Springhill Hospice
Date published: 19 May 2017
The borough of Rochdale embraced the colour green on Friday 12 May to help raise much needed funds to support the work that Springhill Hospice does.
Nurseries, schools, libraries, sports centres, businesses and offices took part along with the hospice's own shops and tea room.
Children and adults of all ages across the borough got involved with everything from baking cakes, dressing up in green, holding exercise challenges and story times and even held a mini balloon release. People also collected their pennies for the million pennies challenge and filled their Go Green collecting boxes with spare change all to help swell the fundraising coffers.
Care at Springhill Hospice is provided free of charge and costs are over £3.4 million each year or approximately £9,300 a day.
Barbara Lloyd, Community Support Fundraiser at Springhill Hospice, said: “Around £7 out of every £10 comes from fundraising in the community.
“This includes donations, our charity shops, the Hospice lottery, personal fundraising challenges and events such as Go Green and we are very grateful to all who give us such wonderful support.”
Last year's Go Green total beat the £10,000 figure - and so far this year it looks like this target may well be beaten.
