Health and Well-being Open Day

As part of improving Health and well-being for local community, Deeplish Community Centre organised a Health Awareness Day on 15 May, as part of welfare and community health initiative. 

This open day was organised to raise awareness and provide information and advice to local communities about healthy life style and professional’s advice on issues affecting people’s health. There were lots of stalls and information for public and health checks for participants.

Over 100 people participated with support coming from Living Well, Big Life Group, Early Break, Rochdale Mind and Rochdale Counci recycling team.

Basic health checks were conducted by Big Life health Ttrainers’, and referrals were made to other health professionals.

Local community pharmacist Mohammed Muzamil carried out diabetes checks for participants and provided useful information and advice on public health.

Big Life delivered bilingual information and advice to participants on reducing blood pressure, information about long term effects of diabetes, and gave detailed information and background information as to what happens if we ignore health advice.

Sohail Ahmad, manager at Deeplish Community Centre, said: “We are pleased to see so many people attending our health and well-being activities at the centre and taking an active part in finding out more about healthier lifestyles and participating in today’s community health day.

“We’re committed to promoting health and well-being for local communities and this event was supported by Rochdale Township as part of welfare, well-being project. We fully recognise and appreciate this support in helping make a difference in the local community.”
