Samea Fascal donates birthday money to Guide Dogs for the Blind

Date published: 25 March 2017

Samea Fascal, a pupil in Year Three at Hamer Primary school, donated £20 of her birthday money to Guide Dogs for the Blind during the school’s ‘Happiness Fair’ on Friday (24 March).

Samea also had chance to meet the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, Ray and Elaine Dutton as they attended the fair.

Victoria Terry, a member of staff at Hamer said: “Samea decided that as well as participating in the usual way, she would like to do donate £20 of her birthday money to her class’s chosen charity, Guide Dogs for the Blind.

“This was an extremely kind and generous gesture and we are all extremely proud of her, as we are of all of our children at Hamer.”

This month has been Maths Happiness Month at Hamer School; a project designed to promote cross curricular, real life application of maths skills, whilst fostering many of the values contained within the PSHCE, British Values and Citizenship programmes of study.

After considering what makes them and others happy, children from Nursery to Year Six were tasked with producing goods or services designed to spread happiness throughout the school. In order to do this, each class was offered a £10 ‘smile loan’ to spend on goods or services to be sold at the Happiness Fair.

The aim of the fair was to spread a little happiness throughout the school community and also across the wider community, with the proceeds for each class being re-invested in order to spread more happiness across various local charities and organisations over the coming weeks.
