Free swimming trials with Bears Swim School

Date published: 19 October 2018

Bears Swim School is offering free swimming trials throughout October and November, so what better time for your child to learn how to swim?

Children should learn to swim as swimming is the only sport which can save your child’s life.

Drowning is still one of the most common causes of accidental death in children, so being able to swim is an essential and important life-saving skill.

Swimming keeps your child’s heart and lungs healthy, improves strength and flexibility, increases stamina and even improves balance and posture.

Not to mention, swimming is lots of fun for people of all ages: children especially love getting in the water and enjoying themselves!

The sport also provides challenges and rewards accomplishments, which helps children to become self-confident and believe in their abilities, in addition to opening a door to even more activities such as SCUBA diving and surfing to the humble triathlon.

Bears Swim School has been operating for over 30 years, providing a structured lesson program in line with Swim England’s learn to swim award scheme, the governing body of competitive swimming in this country.

Bears’ Mark Crouch says: “We believe every child should learn to swim in a safe and friendly environment with the emphasis on good technique taught in a friendly and fun way by teachers with knowledge and experience of swimming up to competitive standards.”

Each free trial assesses your child’s current ability, plus a full 30-minute lesson. Swimmers are continually assessed during each stage of their development.

Many of Bears Swim School’s teachers are either ex-competitive swimmers coming from Aquabears, who they have worked in partnership with since 1979, or teachers qualified through the A.S.A education programme.

The swim school operates from Castleton Leisure Centre on Saturdays between 10am-11am and from Oulder Hill on both Saturdays and Sundays 12pm-2pm.

Bears’ lessons cater for pre-school upwards to pre-competitive swimmers over an eight-week course programme.
