Heritage Open Days – what would you like to see?

In September some of the borough’s most spectacular and intriguing buildings will be opening their doors to the public.

The mobile Yelloway Motor Coach Museum will be outside Touchstones Rochdale, a real treat for Rochdale folk seeking coach travel and holiday nostalgia.

Horse Carrs on Shawclough Road presents the on-going story of Horse Carrs house as it continues to serve the local community, and includes archival displays on Horse Carrs, The Watson Family, and The West Street Baptist Church.

The recently restored Long Street Methodist Church, Schoolrooms, Middleton, along with the Arts and Crafts Church, is 'a knockout' according to the latest Pevsner guide (2004).

Hare Hill House, Littleborough has an exhibition of Extraordinary Women of Littleborough and the House will be open for tours. This year they are dressing the House as it may have looked 100 years ago.

Rochdale Town Hall, Rochdale’s fabulous Grade I Victorian Gothic town hall is renowned worldwide for its unique and detailed architecture. Join an expertly guided tour and marvel at the wonderful craftsmanship, immerse yourself in the building’s history and take a look inside the Mayor’s Parlour.

Join a free Blue Badge Guided Heritage Trail that will commence and finish at Touchstones Rochdale.

You will learn about Rochdale's architectural heritage, gain insight into how Rochdale became world famous as the birthplace of the worldwide Co-operative movement and can reflect on what life was like in Rochdale in the 19th century.

Heritage Open Days is a nationwide event, celebrating England’s architecture and culture by offering free access to buildings that are usually closed to the public or charge admission.

It is a once a year chance to discover hidden architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities which bring local history and culture to life at buildings of every age, style and function.

Heritage Open Days is England’s biggest and most popular voluntary cultural event and runs from Thursday 6 September to Sunday 9 September.
