Team Karting: Children steer their way with Bambino Karts

Date published: 10 May 2016

Children as young as five years old are being given the chance to get behind the wheel and let off steam, as Rochdale’s Team Karting company introduces kids-only karting.

The scheme, say karting experts, allows children to exercise independence and freedom as well as giving them a chance to channel their energy into something productive, all-in-all creating better mind-sets in young people.

The mini karts, known as Bambino karts, are similar to regular karts but are specially designed for children, with slower speeds and carefully engineered safety measures allowing the early primary school children to get steering.

Team Karting on Queensway is Rochdale’s only indoor karting track, the longest in Greater Manchester, and is attracting people from all over the region. There were over 50,000 visitors last year alone, a number which staff members expect to grow even larger as word gets around.

The Bambino karts opens up the market to larger numbers of people including whole families and gives young people a productive outlet.

Team Karting's Matty Street said: “Karting teaches independence and discipline. Children need to channel their energy into something they are passionate about. For them, karting is exciting and fun, but giving them the ability to do it from a young age is extremely beneficial for them in the sense that it gives them a sense of achievement and is a positive way of letting off steam.”

He added: “Kids from five upwards can now race on our fully indoor 508 metre race track.

"Customer safety is our number one priority at Team Karting therefore before any child is let out on to the track they a give a full safety briefing.

"Bambino kart drivers have to pass three short racing courses where they will work one-on-one with a racing coach, ensuring they are safe and learning in a controlled manner. Once they pass the courses they have enough karting skill to race freely."

Matty added: “The fact we are now able to let more youngsters take part in karting is great news for Rochdale and the wider area.”
