Balderstone and Kirkholt ward Councillor Dale Mulgrew has a new addition to his family – a little girl.
Lorelai Veronica Mulgrew arrived at 5.29am on 30 December, weighing 7lb 7oz.
Lorelai is Dale and Philippa Mulgrew’s second child. Their first, Tristan, is three-years-old.
The family, who live in Shawclough, opted for a home birth following the removal of maternity services from Rochdale Infirmary and Councillor Mulgrew says it is an option he thinks people in the borough should “seriously consider.”
Councillor Mulgrew said: “I am delighted that my little girl was born in Rochdale given the context surrounding the reduction in maternity services. There is still a good option for children to be born in the borough and I know that the local NHS is encouraging home births and from our experience we would rate it as first class.”
The couple’s baby was due on Christmas Day but hung on until the 30 December.
Councillor Mulgrew, said: “I am thrilled with the care the community midwife team gave my wife and I am pleased to say that everything went according to plan.”
Councillor Mulgrew and his wife, Philippa, had thought they were going to have a boy so were surprised when Lorelai arrived and it took them until this week to settle on her name.
