Birtle Brook wins award for Best Designed Retirement Village in the UK

Date published: 25 November 2014

Birtle Brook, a retirement village close to Bury has been awarded the ‘Best Designed Retirement Village in the UK’ at the over 50s Housing Awards.

The retirement village, designed by Rochdale architect Paul Clark, offers an exclusive and luxurious lifestyle with 60 traditional cottages and apartments.

Speaking about winning the award, Mr Clark said: “It felt like a great achievement to win. Obviously it is nice to be recognised for the work that you do in your field so this shows that the hard work is paying off.”

Mr Clark picked up the award at a ceremony in London on Thursday 13 November and believes that Birtle Brook won for a number of reasons.
He said: “You would have to ask the people who gave me the award really but I think the overall design, its inclusion of the landscape and the quality of the building are a few reasons why we won.”

CJ Partnership based in Castleton, the company responsible for the design of the retirement village, have already scooped a number of awards for their work with Paul believing that this latest win is certainly good news for Rochdale.

He added: “I definitely think that this is good news for Rochdale. We have the best office in the UK (2012) and now the best retirement village in the UK.”
