Peacock Room chef Scott Evans cuisine reigns supreme

Date published: 17 November 2014

Peacock Room Chef Scott Evans was declared the winner of the Deckers Hospitality Group’s chef competition for the second time.

Scott became the first chef to win the title twice and in doing so won himself a 64GB IPad Mini. The announcement was made at a celebratory dinner held in the Peacock Room where sponsors and guests were treated to some of the standout dishes from the contest this year.

This event allows chefs from the Rochdale based group to step out of their usual busy kitchens into the intense arena of competition cooking. Tested on their ingredient knowledge, technical ability, and ability to create restaurant standard dishes from mystery ingredients, the standard this year was exceptional.

Group head chef Rob Walker said: “I’m proud to say we had a record number of entries this year. It’s great to see the creativity and level of ability we as a group have within our kitchen teams. I can’t thank our sponsors enough. We couldn’t give our chefs this opportunity without them.

“It was a very close final, with Paul Nelson (The Royal Toby), Stephen Taylor (The Conservatory) and last year’s winner Brendan Murphy (The Conservatory) very worthy finalists.”

Deckers Managing Director Max Brierley said: “I’m very pleased for Scott, he is a very worthy winner. He works very hard and has a great eye for detail.

“It is also great testament to our relationship with Hopwood Hall College, one of our sponsors, who sent Scott for work experience with us at a Cuisine Supreme final a few years ago.

“Since joining us, Scott has thrived in our kitchen teams and also enjoys the occasional shift front of house to keep his skills up and gain first-hand knowledge of how our dishes are being received by our guests.”
