Swinton staff join forces for Cancer Research UK

Date published: 30 July 2014

Staff at Swinton Insurance in Rochdale have announced a charity partnership with Cancer Research UK. The charity will be the recipient of the company’s fundraising activities for 2014/15 starting in July this year.

Throughout the period, employees will be encouraged to join in events, competitions, and other promotions to raise money to hit the £25,000 target which will go towards pioneering research to help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

If the £25,000 target is reached Swinton Insurance will match the sum to take the total raised past the £50,000 barrier.

Christophe Bardet, Chief Executive, said: “Swinton is built on our people insuring people – through our 350 branches, our contact and commercial centres and the web.

"Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, and we are aware some may have been affected by cancer either themselves or through friends, loved ones or colleagues.

"As a business, with a foundation of bringing back the personal touch, we plan to undertake a real commitment to making this new charity partnership with Cancer Research UK work.

"Across all areas of the business, our people will be doing all they can to raise as much money as we can to help beat cancer sooner.”

Rachel Laycock at Cancer Research UK said, “Every two minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. With the help of Swinton staff we’re working to fund research which will help more men, women and children survive.

“It’s fantastic that Swinton has pledged to raise such an incredible amount of money for us and we wish them the best of luck with their fundraising. The funds will go towards the charity’s research to beat over 200 types of cancer, helping to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.”

Although the number of people being diagnosed with cancer is going up the good news is that, thanks to research, survival rates have doubled in the past 40 years. More people across Rochdale are now beating the disease than ever before. Cancer Research UK’s work is at the heart of that progress.

Cancer Research UK receives no Government funding for its ground-breaking research. Funds raised through supporters like Swinton and their customers are therefore crucial to the work of doctors, nurses and scientists who work day and night to fight cancer on all fronts.
