Dachser Logistics operational at Kingsway Business Park

Date published: 17 October 2019

Dachser UK’s new multi-million pound warehouse and hub for its Northern England services is now operational from Kingsway Business Park, Rochdale.

After announcing the development of a new logistics centre in Rochdale at the beginning of the year, the logistics service provider, part of the international Dachser group, has moved rapidly to complete the newly built 5,175 square metre hub. The new facility replaces Dachser’s previous base in the town since its takeover of J. A. Leach in 2010.

The development of the 3.7 hectare (9.2 acre) site represents a £14.4 million investment by the company and is evidence of Dachser’s commitment to Rochdale as a distribution hub, and the UK market as a whole. In particular it strengthens the company’s presence in the northern UK region and will further improve its transport and distribution services in one of British industry’s heartlands.

“We have an optimistic view on the future of both import and export trade with the rest of Europe and beyond,” commented Mark Rollinson, Managing Director Dachser UK.

“Since the company’s initial expansion into the area in 2010, our business has grown fivefold, necessitating the warehouse expansion to satisfy the demands of our customers’ global integrated supply chains. We have also experienced a sustained increase in UK exports delivered through Dachser’s extensive European distribution network.”

The Kingsway location is optimally situated from a logistics viewpoint, adjacent to the M62 at junction 21; the trans-pennine motorway, which is an important artery of the UK’s ‘Northern Powerhouse’. The new facility has 49 dock loading doors and an additional four level access doors and the build is nearly 7,000 square metres, including office space.

Gary Atkinson, branch manager at Rochdale, said: “The Rochdale Logistics Centre is connected to the global Dachser network with daily direct freight services.

“With this new construction, our location in the North of England is evolving into an important hub within Dachser’s European network. Ensuring that the new facility remained within Rochdale was an important consideration in the interests of the company’s workforce.”

Dachser UK currently employs a total of 448 people, 106 of whom are based in Rochdale where the company expects to create many jobs over the next five years.

Councillor John Blundell, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Business, Skills and Employment at Rochdale Borough Council and board director of the RDA said: “We are delighted that Dachser is now operational at Kingsway, one of the North’s most important business parks. The fact that prestigious companies like Dachser are growing and creating new jobs in our borough, even as national politics continues to be dominated by such uncertainty, is testament to the strength of Rochdale’s business offer.”
