Nutters Restaurant celebrates 25 years

Date published: 18 July 2018

The multi-award-winning Nutters Restaurant will be celebrating 25 years of business over the last weekend of July.

Celebrity chef owner, Andrew Nutter, could barely contain his excitement as he told Rochdale Online the restaurant’s plans to mark the momentous occasion.

To celebrate, the restaurant will be hosting a black tie ‘glittering night of utter celebration’ with a Greatest Showman reception on the Tanqueray Terrace, complete with garden party nibbles of classic dishes with mouth-watering desserts like praline shortbread, whimberry curd and wild strawberry torte. A cheese emporium and coffee will round off the evening.

Andrew said: “It has been insane. Back then, I was a 21-year-old upstart coming up from London and I didn’t know what would happen. People’s eating habits have got a bit more adventurous over the years. I’m really giddy for the celebrations; we’re having fireworks and the soundtrack for the Greatest Showman.

“Hard work, determination and grit pays off, but you’re only as good as your team. We’ve stayed true to using local ingredients on our doorstep and we do try and use what is in season.

“I’m so chuffed at where I’ve come from to where I am now. Every day is good and we push ourselves to the maximum. Nutters is about great company with family and friends and enjoying delicious food whilst doing so.”

Originally called French Connection, Nutters Restaurant opened on the moors at the former New Inn when Andrew was just 21. The venture was renamed three years into business to tie in with his success on television, including his own show, ‘Utter Nutter’, plus regular appearances on ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’ and many other prime time shows.

The highly popular French cuisine restaurant relocated in 2004 to what used to be The Manor on the outskirts of Norden, where it has remained since, undergoing a refurbishment in 2017.

Aged just 15, Andrew knew he wanted to be a chef after winning a multitude of junior contests. He began an apprenticeship at The Savoy, the opportunity of a lifetime, after catching the eye of famed chef Anton Edelmann.

He then moved to the chateaus of France, where he perfected and developed his signature style before returning to the UK, joining Gary Rhodes and his team in Mayfair.

Andrew then saw opportunity to open a restaurant on the doorstep of his home town with his family, and Nutters was born.
