MP Tony Lloyd visits Hanson Springs

Date published: 02 October 2017

Rochdale MP Tony Lloyd paid a visit to engineering company Hanson Springs, where he was shown new ‘million-pound-plus' machinery.

One of the leading firms in manufacturing precision valve springs across the globe, the machinery enables "tomorrow’s manufacturing to take place in Rochdale today".

Mr Lloyd said: “Rochdale benefits from the high-quality jobs that this creates.

"Hanson Springs is one of many companies in Rochdale which contribute to the town’s economic future.”

Hanson Springs has grown from humble origins - when founder Malcolm Hanson set up the company in 1963 - to become one of Rochdale’s first class engineering firms.

Malcolm Hanson said: “The new coiling line incorporates a number of new technologies for Hanson Springs. These include an industrial robot for transferring the hot bars from the furnace to the coiling machine, polymer quenching and high efficiency forced air tempering.

“These advancements will improve the working environment whilst also increasing our production efficiency, allowing us to expand exports to our core markets in Europe and North America.”

Hanson is recognised as being a world and market leader, operating from two sites in Rochdale, on Gorrells Way and Mellor Street, and Plano in Texas.

The very latest valve spring production technology has enabled Hanson Springs to become one of the largest independent valve spring manufacturers in the world.
