Taking steps back to work
Castleton Sure Start Children’s Centre offering parents steps into work through a training and careers day on Thursday 25th March from 9am – 12noon.
Parents, carers, grandparents, aunties and uncles are invites along on the morning to find out more on jobs, courses and funding courtesy of Job Centre Plus. Job Centre Plus will be join by other agencies including Employment Links, Hopwood Hall College and the adult careers service – ‘Next Steps’.
This is a drop in session for any one wanting training or careers advice. The session is aimed at promoting economic wellbeing, specifically to support parents wanting to get back into employment and training and reduce the number of parents receiving workless benefits. Castleton Sure Start Children’s Centre offer a full timetable of events for families with children aged 0 – 5 throughout the week.

An Evening of Storytelling: Taffy Thomas
The very first Laureate for Storytelling, Taffy has a repertoire of more than 300 stories, tales and elaborate lies collected mainly from traditional oral sources. Hear just a few of his stories during this very special evening of entertainment.

Parkinson’s disease society meeting
Monthly meeting of the society. Starts at 6pm with a 1 hour physiotherapy session followed by a discussion by the members. Meeting close at 9pm a nominal fee of £5 for membership is required by the society for insurance cover.

Littleborough Civic Trust Meeting
Littleborough Civic Trust is a voluntary body affiliated to the national Civic Trust. It was established in 1971 and exists to conserve and enhance the environment of Littleborough.
Our activities depend on the interests of members, but include writing books, planting trees and encouraging Local Authority actions.
We meet on the second Tuesday of every month. Meetings are open to anyone, members or not.

Edwin Waugh Dialect – Annual General Meeting
Our Usual Speedy Annual General Meeting. Followed Immediately At 7.30 Pm By An Evening With Sam Fitton. Chairman: Brian Foster. Waugh Item: Ron Williams
The Objects of the Society are the maintaining and increasing of interest in Lancashire Dialect. Monthly Meetings, the usual format for meetings is:
A welcome to all from the evening's Chairman, (a different one every week); a rendition (or should that be rending?) of Edwin Waugh's song "A lift on the Way", followed by a reading of a poem or extract from one of Waugh's works by a pressed volunteer and then the 'parish notices' from the Secretary.
The Guest for the evening then entertains, a vote of thanks is given and a second Waugh song, the most appropriate "Toddlin' Whom", ends the evening about 9.15 pm.
After this, in the immortal words of our previous President Jack Lye, " Tha con aw Pike off whom neaw!"
