Find out more about healthcare in Rochdale
NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group’s (HMR CCG) Governing Body is meeting on Friday 21 June and the public is invited to attend.
The monthly governing body meetings are where official business is discussed and formal decisions are made about everything from policies to which health services will be commissioned.
Public questions are welcome and can either be submitted through the website (www.hmr.nhs.uk, under ‘about us’, then ‘governing body meetings’) or asked during the open questions slot at beginning of the meeting.
This month’s meeting will be shorter, followed by a strategic development session for governing body members.
There is also a half-hour public engagement session before the meeting where people can discuss any questions or concerns directly with HMR CCG’s engagement manager. The session will begin at 10am. Please report to reception on arrival at Number One Riverside.
To help make sure decisions and comments made at the meeting are accessible to local people, we now tweet live from governing body meetings. Follow us on Twitter @NHSHMR.
The agenda and papers for the meeting will be available on the ‘about us’ section of our website www.hmr.nhs.uk in advance of the meeting.
A full schedule of governing body meetings can also be found on the governing body pages of our website.

Nutrition is key to good health
The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is hosting a public talk about the benefits of good nutrition for hospital patients.
The talk will look at the work of the Nutrition and Dietetics service at the Trust and the ward initiatives that have been implemented to ensure good nutrition for every patient.
Sarah Parker, Dietetic Manager at The Royal Oldham Hospital, will talk about the importance of nutritional care as a cornerstone of treatment.
The Pennine Acute Trust runs a Nutrition Steering Group with operational groups dedicated to improving the delivery of nutritional care, including getting the right food to the right patients on the wards.
A revised menu for patients with dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) has been recently introduced by the Trust. Catering staff, speech therapists and dietitians have worked alongside food manufactures and, most importantly, with patients to revise menus. The format of the menu has also been updated allowing patients more choice at each meal time, including smaller options for patients who may be unable to eat larger meals. The new menu was launched across the Trust in December 2012 and has now been rolled out fully across the Trust.
A finger foods menu primarily aimed at patients with dementia has also been introduced. Patients with dementia often suffer from poor hand to eye coordination which can make cutlery difficult to use. Some patients are often find it difficult to sit down at mealtimes. The menu is suitable for patients who would normally chose meals from the main hospital menu who do not have swallowing problems.
The talk will take place at the Education Centre at The Royal Oldham Hospital on 24 June between 2–3pm. Entrance is free and open to the public, FT members and hospital staff. Free nutritional supplement drinks will also be made available to sample.
