The public living room at Spotland Community Centre
A ‘public living room’ has been created at Spotland Community Centre, and was officially opened on Wednesday 19 January.
The living room is open to all residents who want to drop by for a brew and a chat.
It comes as part of a project run by the New Pioneers Team which supports residents from Lower Falinge and College Bank to pursue their professional and personal aspirations.
The launch was attended by ward councillors Faisal Rana and Iram Faisal, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing and Camerados, which pioneered the public living room idea.
Camerados says the public living rooms are “a no agenda space, where folk can go to just be themselves alongside others, they are warm welcoming places that offer no services just the company of fellow humans.”
Public living rooms are open to all and the Spotland one is the second in the Rochdale borough alongside one at Bowlee Pavilion, Middleton.
The Spotland public living room is open from 10am-2pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
